Strange I was only looking at this yesterday in Burkes Peerage. There
was a Josselin, Sire de Courtenay, living 1060. From him are
descended the Courtenays, the Earls of Devon. His grandson Renaud had
a bit of a falling out with Louis VII of France, and his lands etc in
France were dispossessed, but he came to England "...and was received
into great favour by Henry II..." By his second marriage to Maud
d'Avranches there was a son Renaud who was Sheriff of Devon and
Castellan of Exeter.
I'm sure there are other readers who can go into greater depth.
