Introduction:
I would like to thank all those who will reply to this survey. Genealogy is a
pursuit that is a complicated matter, which often requires a great deal of
learning in matters of methodology, sources, paleography, time, an
d perseverance. However, computers, software, operating systems, and CD-Rom
technology are part of the pursuit of discovering one ancestry.
In the last two years the internet with the World Wide Web, e-mail, and a host
of other features has burst onto the scene. As a response individuals,
institutions, and businesses have flocked to it. The same is true fo
r the realm of genealogy.
This survey was constructed to gather information to help individuals,
institutions, and businesses involved in genealogy know how best to meet the
needs of those who use the internet as a tool for researching or communi
cating. It is not the first survey, nor will it be the last. It is important
that the needs of the users always be known, so I hope that all readers of the
newsgroups will answer. Please look for future surveys in the
future from GenQuest and others such as Matt Helm of the Genealogy Tool Box.
