I don't know about the detailed stuff; it may not check out against
accepted authorities...
However, don't ever discount family legends. I have yet to disprove a
single one--and a couple have proven out.
My mother (a Calhoun) used to verbally render the motto and war cry of Clan
Colquhoun. No one paid much attention to her. Years later, I found it just
as she had rendered it. Now I wish I knew where in the hell she came up
with it.
My father (middle name Bradford) used to mention that we were descended
from Gov. Wm. Bradford of Plymouth Colony. In younger years, this slid
right by me.Years later, I came across the Cynthia Bradford (ggg
grandaughter of the gov.) who married my direct-line Camfield ancestor.
We all should have talked more to our grandparents...and I particularly to
my great grandmother, b. 1853, who was sharp as a whip up until her death
in 1951.
