Look for a book called "Women Warlords," by Tim Newark. Eleanor
of Aquitaine's atempt at combat during the Crusades is noted, as
well as the exploits of Matilda, Countess of Tuscany, and a few
other ladies. The illustrations are super! Other books in this
series are "Celtic Warriors," and "The Barbarians." In spite of
being designed for easy reading, the authors of this series draw
upon recent archaeological research for their detailed depictions
of battle gear and provide good bibliographies.
