I know very little about medieval history. I have a question I hope
someone can answer.
In the Ancestral File at the Family History Center of the Mormon Church,
I entered the name of my ancestor, Mary Bacon, b. 1640, Groton, Midd.,
Mass..
The list of her ancestors went back to the year 1027, Baconthorpe,
England and William The Conquerer.
This information refers to William as "The First Grimbaldus, GMB." It
said he was born 1027, died 1087. The dates coincide, but can find little
else that does. I find no no records of "Baconthorpe" or "Grimbaldus,
GMB."
The church records shows his son to be Ranauf, Ralph De Bacon, born 1160
(?). Should this date be 1060? William died 73 years before 1160.
(Matilda is not mentioned.)
I cannot find the name "Grimaldus" in connection with any of the four
sons and five daughters of William and Matilda.
I wrote the submitter of this information. He replied that his mother
had done the research and other than that did not give an answer.
What does "GMB" mean?
Will greatly appreciate any answers.
