A balanced summary of the battle Abbey Roll in its various
versions/copies and of other lists of those who were said to have come
with William the Conqueror is given by Anthony Camp, Director of the
Society of Genalogists (SOG), London in a booklet entitled:

My Ancestors Came with the Conqueror - those who did, and some of
those who probably did not.

It can be ordered from the SOG direct. You can obtain their booklist
on Web on the GENUKI site at:
http://www.midas.ac.uk/genuki/big/

and from the Societies paragraph, follow the SOG links.
