I'll be listening to hear what others say.
Here's a part of what I've learned since discovering 'Le Listes
de Conqueror' which include the version(s) researched by the
Cleveland family.
1. That is list is as spurious as all others, despite
its apparent pedigree.
2. There is no accurate list.
3. On every list, there are errors of every kind:
mis-identifications of real participants
names of families not present, even
names missing which, were likely present.
If you go futher, I will find you a beautiful quote from
a respected 17-18th century researcher. For now I will simply
disclose that the name of the writer is on that role call;
and my research indicates that there is almost no reason to
believe the listing to be valid. I don't know how many you
will find at this listening post who would be happy to be
involved in debunking his own namesake. But, in truth, what
I've learned about those Corbets of Domesday, is more interesting
historical fact than the family mythology. If you hope to find
facts with the Battle Abbey Role as a starting point, be
prepared to be skeptical to a health degree.
