Subject: Ancestors of Kalonymus
Date: Sat, 5 Aug 1995 13:45:41 GMT
Just getting use to the usenet, and making a request for any information
regarding the decendants,of Kalonymus, a Sicilian Jew who rescued the
Holy Roman Emperor King Otto 11 in the battle of Cottrone, Italy,in the
year 982.
He immigrated to Mainz Germany and his children, were in the sugar
trading business, sending Caravans to Poland,Turkey, India and to China,
and bringing back,silk and paper.
The descendants were "tzuckerman" and the name survives to this day under
the name Zuckerman.
Some Zuckerman's settled in South Africa, One particular Zuckerman was
Lord Solly Zuckerman died 1994 who was a consultant to Winston Churchill
during World War 11.
Other Zuckerman's exist in the USA. Trying to make connections to these
ancestors with the name of Zuckerman or Kalonymus(Kalman) (Calman) in
Mainz Germany, Russia,Italy or the USA.
The largest Monument to a Jew is located at the Kalonymus Escarpment,in
Grahamsville New York. It measures 1100 Feet by 200 Feet and is
documented by the US Government, Dept of Interior.as a geograhic name.
Document # decision number 7804.
Sincerely yours,
David C.Zuckerman
