Subject: [GEN-EVENTS] Southern California Genealogy Jamboree Update
Date: Wed, 14 Mar 2007 23:11:20 -0700

With the Southern California Genealogy Jamboree less than three months away
[June 8, 9, 10 in Burbank, California], it's time for an update on the
recent developments.

1. We are very pleased to announce that Sunday morning's breakfast is
being sponsored by the International Society of Family History Writers and
Editors. With our Family History Writers Conference that day, IFSHWE's
involvement is a perfect fit. We are very grateful for the involvement of
all of our sponsors, including Ancestry.com, the California State
Genealogical Alliance, and the NSU Creole Heritage Center, as well as
IFSHWE.

2. If we were running a contest for the most-distance-traveled Jamboree
participant, I am sure the winner would be Sunday's breakfast speaker,
Schelly Talalay Dardashti from Tel Aviv, Israel. A native New Yorker,
Schelly focuses on Jewish genealogy as researcher, journalist, instructor,
speaker and blogger. She writes "Tracing The Tribe - The Jewish Genealogy
Blog" and, from 1999-2005, was Jewish genealogy columnist for the Jerusalem
Post/Metro ("It's All Relative"). Read her blog at
http://tracingthetribe.blogspot.com. We are very lucky to have Schelly at
Jamboree. Her presentation on "Creating Hope" will relate the Jewish
community's international efforts to reconnect families. It's sure to be a
heartwarming, inspiring way to start the day.

3. The complete Jamboree and Writers Conference programs are finished and
are online for your review and download at www.scgsgenealogy.com. We'll be
mailing out hard copies by the end of the month. With up to six concurrent
sessions every hour, you'll want to study the schedule and plan the entire
weekend.

4. The early-bird registration discount has been extended through April
15, but don't drag your feet to send in your registration. Seating is
limited for the special events, and we expect the Family History Writers
Conference to be a sell-out. The banquets, breakfast and Zydeco dance are
open to family members as well as Jamboree participants.

5. You can register online, by phone, by mail, or in person at the SCGS
Library at 417 Irving Drive, Burbank.
