Subject: [GEN-EVENTS] Computer Genealogy Meeting
Date: Thu, 15 Feb 2007 11:03:51 -0500
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: COMMUNITY CALENDARS/NEWSLETTERS
WHAT: Computer Assisted Genealogy Group-Cleveland Area Meeting
WHEN: Saturday, March 17, 2007 - Doors open at 9 a.m.; meeting 9:30 a.m.
with general program/speaker. Breakout sessions for the major genealogy
software programs start at 11 a.m.; brown bag lunch; computer fundamentals
from 1-2 p.m.
WHERE: Fairview Park Regional Library, 21255 Lorain Road, Fairview Park OH
PROGRAM:
Morning Session: Making Sense of Sources, presented by Lorraine Newsome,
prepared by Holly Timm.
We know that citing our sources is what separates genealogy from mythology,
but getting the hang of why and how can seem difficult. Learn more about
what it all means, where to store all that information, and just who the
heck is that Elizabeth Shown Mills anyway? Since we want to document what we
actually saw, today we need to record data from the Internet, so formats for
doing that are now available along with traditional ones. What looks like
work in the beginning can save you from repeating searches and frustrations
over "why did I think THAT?"
Afternoon Session: Forms for Genealogy with Jean Hoffman
What forms can your genealogy program create? We'll look at some of them,
then learn to create others or find them online - for free. Keep records of
the sources you search, even without results. Use a research log, track
correspondence, plot a timeline or use a census transcription form. Some
forms are helpful just for readable column headings. Come and maybe find
just the one you've needed.
