Please go to www.RootsInTheBoot.org to see the program schedule for the
Roots in the Boot conference to be held at the University of Pittsburgh,
Pittsburgh, PA on July 14 and 15, 2006. The well-known author John Colletta,
Ph.D. will be giving presentations each day. Among the 12 other speakers are
3 with the Certified Genealogist credential, 2 with the Accredited
Genealogist credential, 3 MLS and another Ph.D.
This well-qualified selection of speakers will present topics on
immigration, passenger lists, naturalization, federal records, records
preservation, writing the family history, language and culture of Italy,
Catholic Church records, finding the town in Italy, LDS Family History
Library records, reading Italian handwriting, Italian civil records,
evaluating what you find on the Internet, and DNA.
The Heinz History Center is sponsoring a dessert reception and tour along
with a talk by the author Christine Crawford-Oppenheimer on "Like Nonna Used
to Make: Exploring Italian Regional Foods." (Christine is the librarian at
the Culinary Institute of America in New York.)
You don't have to be Italian to enjoy the wide variety of topics. Please
consider joining us in Pittsburgh this summer and tell your friends and
relatives about the conference. Other events in Pittsburgh around the same
time include the All-Star baseball game and Italian day at Kennywood
Amusement Park.
Best wishes,
Elissa
