She has been the manager of Fairfax County's Inter-Library Loan program
since 1997.
Interlibrary Loan is the process of sharing resources between
libraries. If Fairfax County Library does not own the book, journal,
microfilm or other materials you need, they may be able to obtain them
from another library or through commercial document vendors.
Ms. Bleistein will explain how the Inter-Library Loan program works,
the Fairfax County policies, and how the Inter-Library Loan code affects
your request. She will explain the nominal fees and help the user to
identify libraries that lend genealogy materials and libraries that
don't lend She will show the audience how to request newspaper
microfilm as well as photocopies of articles. Finally, she will show
the audience how to use WorldCat/ First search - reading the
Bibliographic record to maximize your chances of success.
Interlibrary loan (ILL) service is available to all Fairfax County
Public Library cardholders, except reciprocal borrowers, who require
information or materials not available through the Library's resources.
Occasionally the owning library charges a fee for loaning the item.
Items available for interlibrary loan include books, microforms, and
periodical articles. Microforms must be requested at branches that have
microform readers. Costs and loan periods for interlibrary loans vary
widely. Terms and conditions of loans and costs of photocopying are
entirely at the discretion of the lending library. ILL service is not
recommended for obtaining books less than one year old, audiovisual
material, periodical issues, or materials needed in less than three to
five weeks
The meeting is free and open to the public. It will be held on Tuesday,
February 21, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. in the Hollin Hall Senior Center, 1500
