- Program: “Exploring Steve Morse’s Website, ’A One-Step Portal for On-Line
Genealogy,’ ” will be presented by Joan Lowrey. Steve Morse, developer of
the 8086 chip back in 1980, came out with a better search engine for the Ellis
Island website two weeks after it was launched in 2001. Since then, he has
given us better search capabilities for the Castle Garden site and passenger
lists for other ports; the U.S. census; the New York State censuses; birth,
marriage and death indexes, including the Social Security Death Index; and more.
