Subject: Tidewater VA Genealogical Society Meeting . . .
Date: Sun, 5 Sep 2004 15:51:26 EDT
The Tidewater Virginia Genealogy Society will meet Saturday, September 25th
at 10 a.m. at the Yorktown Virginia Public Library, 8500 George Washington
Memorial Highway, Route 17.
Mary Beth Dalton of Jigsaw Genealogy will present a program entitled "Stop
the Presses! Research with Historic Newspapers." By the mid-19th century, small
town newspapers boomed in this country. From headlines to obituaries, gossip
columns to advertisements, newspapers can fill in genealogical details other
records cannot provide.
A Reference Librarian will give an overview of the book and microfilm
collection in the History Room at this branch of the York County Library.
Mary Beth Dalton has taught genealogy classes and workshops for eight years,
most recently for the Williamsburg Area Learning Tree, the College of William
and Mary's Elderhostel Program and Christopher Newport University's Center for
Community Learning. Her company, Jigsaw Genealogy is based in Williamsburg
and offers introductory and intermediate level genealogy classes, tours of
regional genealogy libraries and their collections, consulting on "brick wall"
genealogy problems and private research. An avid genealogist, own family's origins
in libraries, archives, churches and courthouses in Michigan, Ontario,
Washington DC, Salt Lake City, Belgium, and Germany.
