Subject: Change to programme - this Monday's Oxfordshire FHS meeting
Date: Sat, 31 Jul 2004 07:25:21 EDT
Hi listers
Earlier in the week, I reminded you that the next meeting of the Oxfordshire
Family History Society is a computer meeting which will be held on Monday 2
August 2004 at Exeter Hall, Oxford Road, Kidlington, Oxford OX5 1AB.
I went on to announce that in a change to the advertised programme, David
Ashworth will speak on "We are all human... the science behind
genetic-genealogy".
It had now been pointed out to me that David's presentation is not instead of
the advertised lecture, but in addition to it. Hence, the programme for
Monday evening is :-
7.15pm - doors open
7.30pm - prompt
David Ashworth will speak on "We are all human... the science behind
genetic-genealogy". David Ashworth is CEO of "Oxford Ancestors", a company who harness
the power and precision of modern DNA-based genetics for use in genealogy.
Their website is at :-
http://www.oxfordancestors.com/
David Ashworth's presentation will look at the science behind the use of
genetic analysis to test genealogical hypotheses, emphasising the fact that all
humans have common ancestry. Another exciting feature of the meeting will be
that the presentation will be recorded for use by national terrestrial
television. "Takeaway Media", an independent television company who make history and
science documentaries, have been commissioned to make a follow-up film to
"Motherland", which will air as part of a BBC season of films about family history
this autumn. As well as catching up with the original stories from "Motherland",
the new programme will explore further the ways that DNA testing can and
can't contribute to genealogy.
8.15pm-ish
"Getting you name noticed", a presentation by the members of the Computer
Group Panel.
As usual, all members, potential members and their guests are welcome.
For directions to get there, see :-

Any queries, please contact me off-list.
Finally, i would like to apologise for any confusion caused by the original
announcement.
