Subject: [GEN-EVENTS-L] NGS GENTECH 2004 Early Registration Deadline Approaching!
Date: Sat, 15 Nov 2003 08:24:49 -0500

Genealogists, particularly those interested in the use of technology, will
meet in St. Louis from 22-24 January 2004 for NGS GENTECH 2004.

December 1 is the deadline for the "early bird" registration discount.

The St. Louis Genealogical Society is honored to host the 2004 NGS GENTECH
Conference. GENTECH 2004 will be held from 22-24 January at the Millennium
Hotel alongside the Mississippi River and within a block or two of some of
the city's most interesting attractions. All of the Conference activities
are within easy walking distance of each other.

Thursday offers a pre-conference program devoted to librarians serving
genealogists. There will also be hands-on tutorial sessions for
non-librarians who arrive early. Friday activities include lectures, the
opening of the Exhibit Hall, and product demonstrations. The evening banquet
features Jay Verkler, Associate Managing Director, Family and Church History
Department, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Lectures and
shopping opportunities in the Exhibit Hall continue on Saturday.

Full conference details for the NGS GENTECH 2004 Program are available at:

at 1-800-473-0060.

So. What is GENTECH?
Since 1993, GENTECH has been the national conference for people interested
in GENealogy and TECHnology. In 2002 GENTECH strengthened its infrastructure
and expanded its role by becoming a division of the National Genealogical
Society.

Early GENTECH conferences consisted of two days of lectures on topics
related to the practical use of technology in genealogy. In the early years
the topics were somewhat limited. In recent years, particularly with the
widespread use of the Internet, the list of topics has become much more
robust and an extra day has been added with a special program for
librarians. Each year there has been a large exhibit area where vendors have
often introduced some of the newest technical products and services for
genealogists.

Because of the nature of GENTECH, it has always been an outstanding meeting
place for some of the best known technically-oriented genealogist-the "early
adopters" of genealogical technology. But it's also always been a good place
for technology beginners to learn more about computer and other technical
skills to help with their family history research. The more experienced
"techies" are always willing to share their knowledge and experience at
GENTECH. For many newcomers GENTECH has provided their first introduction to
the technical side of genealogy-and a chance to learn what's new and how to
use it effectively. This opportunity will continue at NGS GENTECH 2004.

See you there!
