Regular Meeting of East Texas Genealogical Society, Tyler, TX
Saturday, October 11, 2003
Tyler Public Library - Taylor Auditorium
2:00 p.m.
Speaker: Don Raney
Program: "How to Find Your Ancestor's Maiden Name"
All researchers know how difficult it can be to locate information
about female ancestors before 1900. As a result, genealogies and family
histories often show only a first name for female ancestors for this time
period.
Guest speaker, Don Raney will share research tips and strategies to
guide you in your search for your maternal ancestors. He will describe
the best techniques for gathering facts and constructing a time line, and
then, searching various records such as marriage documents, tombstone
inscriptions, censuses, obituaries, newspapers, and death certificates. Many
examples of successful research efforts will be demonstrated during his
presentation.
Mr. Raney is a sixth generation Texan who has been an active
genealogist for twenty-five years. He currently teaches Beginning,
Intermediate, Advanced and TMG Genealogy courses at Richland College. He is
a past Director of the Dallas Genealogy Society and GENTECH and a life
member of the San Jacinto Descendants. He has been a speaker at numerous
conferences and society meetings throughout the state including the Dallas
Genealogy Society Fall Symposium, the Houston Genealogical Forum, and the
Angelina College Genealogy Conference.
Following a short refreshment period, at approximately 3:30 p.m., the
Computer Interest Group of the East Texas Genealogical Society will meet.
Mary Love Berryman will present a program on "Introduction to Web Paging".
