This is a local genealogy/history fair. Books will be on sale representing
the history of towns, churches, individuals, and events from the 11 Kentucky
counties represented by Ancestral Trails Historical Society (Hardin,
Bullitt, Meade, LaRue, Nelson, Breckinridge, Edmonson, Grayson, Hart,
Jefferson, and Harrison County in Indiana). County marriage records,
cemetery records, census records, bible records, church records, pension
records, civil war soldiers, early preachers, pioneers and lots of other
subjects.
Representatives from the various Historical/Genealogical Societies located
in the counties served by ATHS will be present to sell their books, answer
questions, and explain membership benefits.
Local authors will be present with their books. Their books will include a
wide range of subjects ranging from Civil War history of the area, History
of St. Patrick's Church of Stithton, History of Fort Knox, History of
African Americans in Northern Hardin County, newspaper abstracts from
various county newspapers of the 19th and 20th century (these are a gold
mine of historical/genealogical information), and much more.
A special display will depict the history of the land that is now the Fort
Knox Military Reservation. Poster size photographs and maps will show the
now extinct towns, churches, businesses, schools, and homes consumed by the
establishment and expansion of Fort Knox. Acquisition maps showing the
location of the hundreds of individual properties consumed, along with names
of the property owners, will be available for examination. Photographs of
the 116 cemeteries, some dating back to the late 1700s, that remain on Fort
Knox will be available as well as the names and locations of over 3500
gravesites within these cemeteries. If you have any historic/genealogical
ties to the land that is now Fort Knox you will not want to miss this.
Authentically costumed reenactors (Frontier and Civil War periods) will be
present.
Refreshments will be available for purchase
