An all day seminar with
Don Raney
on July 13, 2002
Topics:
1. Finding Your Ancestors in the Federal Land Records - describes the paper trail our ancestors left in the land records in the thirty states that are known as the "Federal Land States".
2. Finding Your Ancestors in the State Land Records - describes the paper trail our ancestors left in the land records in "State Land States" which consist of the original thirteen colonies and their daughter states.
3. Research in the Texas Land Records - describes some of the early Texas history while tracing the routes of some of the early settlers into Texas and describes experiences of the settlers in obtaining the various types of land grants for Texas land.
4. Writing Your Family History with Historical Context - provides reasons why genealogists should record their family history and describes how to start writing while you are researching. Will also show why local history will make your ancestors more interesting.
Don Raney has a B. S. Civil Engineering, SMU & retired in 1997 as Chief Engineer for Lone Star Gas Co. He is a Past Director for Dallas Genealogy Society & GENTECH. He is a life member of San Jacinto Descendants. Don is a sixth generation Texas who has been a active genealogist for twenty-five years. He currently teaches Beginning & Intermediate Genealogy courses at Richland College (Dallas County Community College District). He has been a speaker at Dallas Genealogy Society Fall Symposium, FGS Conference 1997 in Dallas, Houston Genealogical Forum, Angelina College Genealogy Conference, GENTECH 95, GENTECH 96 and many local genealogical societies.
