Subject: [GEN-EVENTS-L] Ohio Palatines Spring Conference

The Ohio Chapter of The Palatines to America will hold its Spring
Conference
on Saturday, April 6, 2002 in Der Dutchman Restaurant in Plain City,
Ohio.
Registration is from 9 to 9:30 A.M. The program is scheduled from 9:30
A.M.
to 3:30 P.M. including a luncheon break at 12:00 Noon. The restaurant is
located at 445 South Jefferson Avenue ( which is U.S. Route 42 ) on the
south
side of Plain City.
The speakers on the program are:
Pastor Herman A. Hartmann whose father came to the United States from the
Palatinate and has made several trips back to this area including service
as an
exchange pastor in Germany. He will cover a variety of records from
Germany
in his talk entitled "Ramblings in the Palatinate".
Paul Immel is the Librarian for the Ohio State Genealogy Library and he
will
speak on "Genealogy Resources, A Gateway to the WEST". He will cover
all the resources available at the new location of his unit in Columbus,
Ohio.
Dr. Chester Winter, a retired Ohio State University professor with
extensive
interests in history and genealogy will talk about "Franz Siegel,
Prominent Civil
War General and Educator". Since his retirement, Dr. Winter has authored
a
book entitled A Concise History of the United States and the State of
Ohio".
He has recently served as President of the Ohio Pal-Am Chapter.
Ann Miller Scott who is the Librarian for the National Library of the
Palatines to
America will speak on "A Cataloger's Best Tips for More Effective
Genealogical
Research". She has been a public librarian, English teacher and a media
specialist. With her husband she shares an interest in computer and
photographic applications to family history.
Kenneth Poling is a full time genealogist with special interests in
probate and the
location of missing heirs. His topic will be on "Bound and Determined,
the
Indentured Servant Odyssey". He will explore how this system influenced
the
population and development of the thirteen original colonies.
Advanced registration for the Conference including the luncheon can be
made
by sending a check for $25 per person both for members and nonmembers
made payable to Ohio Chapter Pal-Am to:

Pre-registration by March 26 is required to assure a luncheon
reservation. After
this date the registration fee is $27.
If your ancestors are from a German speaking country, this is the place
to be!
