Where do I start? How? How do i I record information? How do I preserve my
photos and documents? Do you need answers to these questions?
West Bell County TX Genealogical Society presents GENEALOGY SEMINAR FOR
BEGINNERS
WHEN: Saturday, March 23, 2002
9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
WHERE: Killeen Public Library, 205 E. Church St. , Killeen TX
COST: Only $15 Per Person - $12 can be applied to one year membership in
WBGS. Register BEFORE March 16, 2002, and you will be eligible for a door
prize to be drawn at the conclusion of the seminar. To register, send your

Lunch WILL NOT be provided. But, there are a number of places to eat nearby.
Or, you can bring a sack lunch and eat it there.
Topics and Speakers include:
A Beginner's Guide to Genealogy - Marilyn Henley, will introduce you to
what genealogy is all about, including some unique terminology. She will
explain "What We Are Looking For."
Collecting Genealogical Data In this session, Marilyn will discuss the
locations of census indexes, birth, marriage and death records, etc. She
will also discuss techniques on how to find the records you need.
Recording Your Data - George Ballentine will introduce you to the various
forms used to record the data you collect. You will learn about family group
sheets, pedigree charts, taking notes, maintaining a correspondence log, and
much more.
Preserving Documents - Shelly Henley Kelly, a professional archivist, will
discuss how to preserve your valuable pictures, mementos, documents and
records that you collect as you progress with your family history research
project.
Genealogy & History - George will discuss how historical events affect how
and where we do research. Find out where your ancestors went, and why.
Stumped? What Do I Do? Everyone runs into a brick wall sooner or later.
Jean Shroyer will teach you some tips & tricks to get your research project
back on track.
Questions & Answers Speakers and Society Members will be on hand to answer
your questions on your particular family research project.
