There will be a England and Wales Crash Course (Genealogical Research) on 8,
9, 10 February 2001 at the Marriott Hotel in Torrance, CA. Cost $98.00 which
includes a syllabus. Three days of new talks and classes. Learn all you
need to know to further your research in England and Wales. Thursday will be
a day of learning how to keep track of your research, organize your
information, find out the importance of names and place names and their
changes, how to REALLY read the records and find the clues - how to analyze
the materials you find ? Do you already have the answer to your problem and
you don' t know it? On Thursday evening there will be computer tips on
GENUKI, etc. Do you know what is meant by the term "GENUKI?" Friday, we
will continue with census records, civil registration, Church of England
records, and nonconformist and Catholic records = where to find them and how
to read them. How to prepare for a trip to a local library or a trip to
England and/or Wales. Migration within England and Wales. The differences
between English and Welsh records.
Friday evening = Love and marriage - women and children in England - how do
you trace them?
Saturday, you may choose the advanced session or repeat the condensed
session of the first two days. The advanced session will deal with deed
registers, other land records, tax records, parish chest contents, military
indexes and records, apprenticeship records, city records, criminal records,
research techniques, probates and wills and tips on manuscript collections,
Society of Genealogists and other societies, and websites.
These classes will be taught by:
Nancy Carlberg author of the "Beginning English Research" and who has
researched in English repositories for many years. She is currently the
Cataloger for the Los Angeles Family History Center.
Nancy Bier co-founder of the British Isles FHS-USA. She had led research
trips thru England for 14 years and lectures regularly on ENglish research.
Annie Lloyd is the genealogist columnist for the Welsh-American Newspaper
"NINNAU" and has lectured internationally. She is the author of the book
"Beginning Welsh Research."

"History of Jews in the Greater Houston Area"
During the month of October 2001, the Texas & Local History Room (generally known as the "Texas Room") of the Houston Public Library will be hosting an exhibit on the "History of Jews in the Greater Houston Area."
Will Howard, the Assistant Manager of the Texas Room stated, "We are pleased the community is interested in providing this exhibit and we look forward to assisting toward that goal." Members of the Jewish community who are interested in participating in the exhibit are invited to provide photographs, historical documents/artifacts, and information.
The exhibit will focus on the impact of Jews in Houston the following topic area: (1) Jewish Military History, (2) Jewish Cemeteries, (3) Jewish Merchants, (4) Jewish Synagogue/Temples, (5) Jewish Newspapers, and (6) Early Jewish Settlers, (7) Jewish Genealogy.
The Texas Room is located on the second-floor of the historic Julia Ideson Building at McKinney & Smith in downtown Houston. The main portion of the exhibit will be located in the entryway on the first floor with additional material from the Texas Room on display on the second floor.

The Computer Assisted Genealogy Group was formed in 1991 to 1) encourage the
use of personal computers for researching and processing genealogy data and
2) provide the resources for computer assisted genealogy education.
Meetings of the Computer Assisted Genealogy Group-Cleveland Area are held
nine times a year at the new Fairview Park Regional Library, 21255 Lorain
Road, Fairview Park, Ohio. Normally on the third Saturday of each month; no
meetings are scheduled in July, August or December. Guests are welcome.
