OHIO CEMETERY HISTORY ALIVE
Preservation Week 2000

WHO: The Ohio Cemetery Preservation Society; the Cleveland Restoration
Society & Preservation Resource Center; and the National Trust for Historic
Preservation

WHAT: Ohio Cemetery Preservation Society Introduction and Slide Presentation

· New Society introduced during National Trust's Preservation Week (May
14-20, 2000).
· Theme of week: "Taking America's Past into the Future."
· New non-profit organization will record, interpret, restore and preserve
the art, history and environment of Ohio's cemeteries and burying grounds.
· A primary goal will be to increase the awareness and inestimable value of
our cemeteries as sources of community and state pride and encourage groups
and individuals to help preserve them as landmarks for future generations to
appreciate.
· We will present an overview of Northeastern Ohio cemetery history,
cemeteries and memorials in need of restoration, and examples of
monumentation that warrant closer study and documentation.
· Open discussion, project suggestions and volunteer referrals will be
enthusiastically encouraged.
· Co-sponsored by Preservation Resource Center, brief reception to follow.
