On Saturday, 29 April 2000, the Monmouth County Genealogy Society will
sponsor a "Civil War Day" in Bates Auditorium at the U.S. Military
Academy Preparatory School "USMAPS" at Fort Monmouth, Route 35,
Eatontown, New Jersey. The keynote presentation will be a talk on "Did
Grandpa Wear Blue or Gray?" focusing on Union and Confederate records at
the National Archives given by Marie Varrelman Melchiori, CGRS. Marie
is a nationally known researcher and speaker, having lectured at the

living history presentations of a Civil War re-enactor playing the part
of a Union soldier, another playing the part of a Confederate soldier,
and another playing the part of a military surgeon. In addition, there
will be a talk on the role of military intelligence in the war. There
will also be "war games" recreating some of the major battles of the
Civil War to see if different decisions by the generals would have
changed the outcomes.

Registration and coffee will begin at 8:00 a.m. with opening ceremonies
at 9:00 a.m. Pre-registration includes lunch at the Dining Facility
serving hot or cold meals, salad and dessert. Preregistration must be
done by mail prior to April 14 and costs $40 per person for members of
the society and $45 for non-members. A $10 handling fee will be
deducted for cancellations which will only be accepted up to April 14.
Late registration and walk-ins cost $50. Registration can be sent to
Civil War, Monmouth County Genealogy Society, P.O. Box 4, Lincroft, NJ
