You have to judge the dues structure vs. your expenses.
Each society is vastly different in what they have to spend money on. Our
society operates its own fairly large library, and is in a major
metropolitan area. Our dues are $30. per year, $45. for a couple, who
receive only one publication. We mail a publication every month - four
50-page quarterlies, and 8 8 page newsletters. Those are the main points we
have to cover when setting our dues structure, which has gone up in recent
years at a more rapid pace - as has our rent. Our lease is being
renegotiated at the moment, and the landlord only wants a 90%increase --
should be easy to handle. : (
Dues increases always do loose us members, but they are eventually replaced
with new members. You just have to judge whether your expenses are being
met. If they are, don't mess with an increase just because you can.
