I have been the editor of a genealogical society newsletter for several years.
Getting members to submit ANYTHING is difficult. I am also digging through
books, records, etc for thing to publish. (Keeping in mind that you can't just
"steal" from other publications.
I have found that the best method of getting information to print from our
members is to talk and listen during the social time of the meeting. If I hear
an interesting story, I will ask that person, "Could you consider writing that
story up for the newsletter?" Often the response is: "Really, would anyone be
interested? " or "I don't know how to write." The best response is,"Do you
need articles ?" After I have been begging in the newsletter for months!
I assure them that people would be interested and I will edit what they
write.I try to get it in the next issue. I give them tons of credit. People
love to see their name in print.
It is still tough, but the personal contact helps.
