Hi to all,

I've just signed on to this list in the hopes of picking up some tips
from people who are more experienced in publishing quarterlies or family
newsletters.

In August of 1997, a friend and I organized a Genealogical Society in
our community. With increased interest, we began a sample quarterly in
October 1997. Since I'm an "at-home" wife, I was volunteered to be
publisher/editor of this project. (Notice: I have the time available to
copy records, etc....not necessarily the experience either in Gen.
research or publishing).

The next (real) quarterly went out in January 1998. We now have 29
members/subscribers and the next quarterly is in the final draft stages
and should be mailed by April 1st.

My question is this...How do you get individuals motivated to submit
material? I've announced this at several meetings, published it in the
quarterly, and have even contacted our members with email addresses with
reminders of quarterly deadlines....and still nothing.

Don't you need more than just records, newspaper articles, etc. to make
an interesting quarterly? I think I'm messing up somewhere....I'm just
now sure where.

Any thoughts shared on this would be appreciated.

Sincerely,

Alicia Brown
