Subject: Re: Has ANYONE found an EASIER way to INDEX their newsletter???
Date: Wed, 31 Dec 1997 16:32:22 -0500
We used Word Perfect for our 3 genealogy books. The latest has about
4000
index entries. We did it like this: In the document, we typed
Jane Doe#DOE, Jane##SMITH, Jane Doe# b. date m. Thomas Smith#SMITH,
Thomas#
The wrote some macros to convert all the #text# patterns into index
entries.
I wrote another macro that converted the patterns to underlined (showed
up
on the screen as reverse video) that made it easy to see the entries and
also
catch any errors where we left out a "#" or put in an extra one.
While producing two earlier books we typed the WordPerfect codes directly
but
we thought the proofreading was very difficult. However, when typing
them
directly we could use two levels of indexing, as in
DOE
Jane
SMITH
Jane Doe
Thomas
But WP 6.0 refuses to cut&paste into the secondary index level so we
ended
up having to be satisfied with
DOE, Jane
SMITH, Jane Doe
SMITH, Thomas
in the latest book.
