I've been working on my in=laws families and found that if I enter the
family group info into my computer genealogy program (and put the
contributor's name & address, with a note that this was their address in
1997, in the notes section) when I receive the info, then I can file the
info in a folder specifically for the parents of a particular family group.
I file the folders alphabetically, surname first, then by the husband's
name. This way, all info on that particular family goes into that folder -
including copies of pictures, deed records, wills, etc.
Be sure the contributor's name or source of info is on each sheet, tho, so
someone else can verify this source later on down the road. Nothing's more
frustrating that to have the piece you need to prove a relationship in your
hand, but can't identify where it came from and whether it was a primary
source or just hearsay. This is a lot of extra work, but can pay off in the
long run.
