Hi Group,

I do wish we could get a conversation going here. Vicki, you are doing
just what I'm trying to get started. I publish a newsletter for one
family now, and am beginning to try to abstract records for publication.
How have you gone about finding buyers for your publications? Have you
advertised in Gen. Helper? Does that work for you? I have seen the
name of your business very recently -- where would I have seen it?

I'm going to Valley Forge for the NGS meeting tomorrow. My main purpose
for going is to connect with others who abstract, write and publish
genealogy materials. Is anybody else going? If so, perhaps we could
meet there?

Here's a question for the group -- is anybody making any money at this?
My husband is semi-retired, but I am just turning 50. I will need to
make some money for the next 10 years or so. The question I'm dealing
with now is whether to make an investment of my time and money to
attempt to enter successfully the field of gen. publishing, or to just
take a job. I would of course much prefer to be my own boss, to work in
genealogy, and to build equity over time in some titles I own, etc. But
can it work? Or should I settle for a regular paycheck and somebody
else paying for part of my medical insurance? That is the question!
