Hi all. Am I correct that the roll call messages are for subscribers to speak up and remind everyone which Forsyth County family surnames they are researching?
I research the family of Josiah Blair Patterson ( 1815-1864) and his wife Mary Jane McNeill ( 1822-1909). The old Patterson family homeplace was a white two-story clap board house near the present location of the water tower on top of the big hill just East of downtown Cumming (house torn down during the early 1980's].
I'm also a big fan of the 14th Regiment Georgia Volunteer Infantry Regiment from Forsyth County, which fought in over 45 battles and major skirmishes in the Army of Northern Virginia ( General AP Hill's Division). Josiah Blair Patterson entered the Confederate Army as a Lieutenant of Company E of the 14th Georgia, where he served throughout his Civil War career. He was killed in action on May 12, 1864 during the Battle of Spotsylvania Courthouse, Va. I'm always looking for news of the Ga. 14th, and am happy to share everything I have, including Josiah's Civil War "letters home", which mention numerous other Forsyth County/Cumming soldiers in the 14th Ga., as well as their family members at home in Cumming.
