quotes
Statistics of The State of Georgia by George White, pub. 1849 which stated
"Mr. Samuel Julian has a marble font, presented to him by James Daniel,
formerly
a judge in the Cherokee Nation."
I have recently seen some information that describes that work of marble more
thoroughly and says at one time [early 1900s] it was in the Constitution
building in
Atlanta.
"It is a marble ball erected on a pedestal of the same mineral, about three
feet in height and weighs 294 pounds. It was wrought by hand by a Cherokee
named James Daniel and an Englishman and at present is deposited in the
Constitution building, Atlanta."
It had been passed down from Samuel Julian, through his son Bailey Frazier
Julian to a grandson of Bailey Frazier Julians, Robert Willis Julian.
Does anyone know what happened to that marble font? Could it still be in a
building in Atlanta? Is there a building there defined as the Constitution
building?
Would there be any information anywhere that would tell why James Daniel gave
this to Samuel Julian?
