Pat
Heard a fellow from the Novato fire department in Northern CA died
defending the Julian area today -- just after noon or such.

We might be getting lucky, the weather forecast is for rain!!! Don't know
if that will happen at all, or if it will happen where we need it, up in
the mountains -- but maybe after these many days, we'll get a handle on the
fire with some moisture of some type. It's been horrible -- hear that even
Vegas also had smog & ash -- from our fire, yet! The beach areas in
Southern CA have been hit hard in the days before the wind changed. There
will be a ton of respiratory problems in our state's future.

They've been trying some new product up the hill in Arrowhead/Big Bear area
-- hope it works as a retardant. Too much up there to loose AND there are
tons of rotten trees due to an infestation of some type of awful beetle/bug
making the area a huge fire hazard. Makes you want the trees to burn, but
the houses are packed in too tightly to let that happen. Hopefully we'll
get the money (meaning CA Department of Forestry) to finally cut down and
destroy those dead trees we've been wanting to do for at least a year --
those are costing/or will cost a lot of lives before this is all done.

It's costing CA millions a day to fight the fire -- and you all know about
California's financial problems . . . . Hopefully people won't have to
wait to rebuild homes and businesses since we truly need the activity.

Plan on a visit to the Golden State next summer and spend spend spend
<GRIN> Lots will be left to see and do, including visiting sites where
your GA relatives might have hung out for a few years in CA -- mine did up
in the Gold Rush country of Northern CA . . . and plenty did the fields in
the central valley bring in the crops. You can see those even today --
miles and miles of farms. We ain't just a pretty face <G>
