STRICKLAND (aka Little Terry) CEMETERY (Shakerag, Forsyth County, Georgia, 1994)

Contributed by Ted 0. Brooke

The Cemetery is located in extreme southeastern Forsyth County. Directions: From intersection of McGinnis Ferry Road and Kemp Road, go north on Kemp road about 200 yards to cemetery site on right (east) side of road. This cemetery is about one acre, mostly fenced, in the edge of a pasture. There is evidence of several dozen additional unmarked graves and, as of this date, there are some 18 small white "Flags" sticking randomly in the ground throughout this cemetery, whose meaning is unknown to me. Surveyed 20 February 1994 by Ted 0. Brooke.

Note: This cemetery has been surveyed and published three times, with varying degrees of accuracy and completeness. It is identified as "Shakerag" (called "Little" or "Terry') in Cemeteries of Forsyth County Georgia, page [34 135; as "Strickland Cemetery" in Cemetery Records, Atlanta and Vicinity volume 4 pages 263 264 (recorded 1941); as two cemeteries, "Strickland Family Cemetery" and Unknown", in the Georgia Genealogist, County Records Forsyth County Cemeteries, pages 86 87, which was a very incomplete listing and where it is noted "could it be a part of the Shakerag Church"?

Several early death certificates identify this as the Terry family cemetery and it is known to current residents as the Strickland family cemetery. The earliest burials here were in the Little, Terry and Strickland families.
