James Franklin 10th VA Reg't. Pvt. Capt. Clough Shelton's 3-28-1777 Virginia

My Great Granduncle
Barefield, Andrew Jackson,
Born 10-13-1846 GA. Served In the Civil War in Company D under Col. Baskin
with Captain Howell Rayborne. He enlisted In 1863 In Pontotoc County, Ms.
the
Company Surrendered At Macon, Ms in 1865. The Honorary Rank Of Major Was
Conferred By
Appointment To The Staff Of The State U.C.V.) He Drew Pension Off His
Enlistment and Died 10-12-1934 And Is Buried In The Sarepta Cemetery,
InCalhoun County Ms. His Wife Was Manerva Vickers.
My Great Grandfather
Barefield, James Polk -------
Born 10-13-1846 GA. Polk Served In The Civil War In Company "D", Hudson
Battalion Enlisting In 12-1864 Until The Surrender At Grenada, Ms. He Was
Only Fourteen Years Of Age. At The Time Of Enlistment And Was Said To Have
The Job Of "Stable Boy" , Serving Only 3 Months. He Served Under Bat. Com.
H.C. Houston & Captain Spence. He Died 2-4-1919. He married Eliza Anne
Vickers Barefield in Scott County MS on 10-22-1871.They are both Buried In
the Sarepta Cemetery, In Calhoun County Ms. They Both Drew Pensions off His
Service.

Born 1845-died March 17, 1925 Waco TX, A Confederate
Veteran, born in Mississippi, served in Co. B, Second Tennessee Calvary.
My Third Great Grandfather
Bearfield, Johnnie -----
War of 1812 Bustin's Military District won lots in the 1830 Cherokee Land
Lottery for land in Pike County, Ga
Carpenter, J. W. (James Wyatt)
Born Near Raleigh, NC 10-22-1839. He Served 4 Years in the Confederate Army
with Only One Thirty-Day Furlough; He Enlisted March 1862 In Company E, 1st
Ms Calvary, Under Captain George Wheeler, Col. R.A. Pension and General N.B.
Forest. On May 4,1865, His Company Commanded By Col. Pension, Surrendered
At Citronelle,Alabama And Was Held Prisoners Until May 18, When They Were
Paroled At
Columbus, Ms. Mr. Carpenter Died 9-15-1927. He is buried In the Quinn
Cemetery in Pontotoc County Ms.
My Great Grandfather
Overby, Jefferson,
Born Forsyth County GA 10-16-1833. At Age 19 Jefferson Enlisted In The
Confederate Army In Oxford Or Grenada Ms, On 4-29-1862. He Served Under Lt.
Col. M. D.L. Stephens in Co. F,
42nd Infantry Vol. Under Capt. Hugh R. Miller/ Thomas G. Clark. Roll Of
Prisoners Of War Record Show Him as Wounded on 7-3-1863, & and was In the
Hospital around Gettysburg, As Prisoner Of War. He Was Transferred To U.S.A.
General Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland on 7-28-1863. His Wounds are listed as
"Vol Sclop Right Leg". He was paroled here & sent To the Episcopal Church
Hospital in Williamburg, VA on 8-22. From Here He Was Transferred To C.S.A.
General Hospital in Farmville, VA. On 8-29,
Records Show He was furloughed until 9-15. He Was Honorably Discharged On
Disability for Wounds Received in the Battle of Gettysburg. The Last 2
Months Of Service, He Had Been Unfit For Duty Because Of Gunshot Wound
Through The Right Thigh, Received In The Battle Of Gettysburg. He Died
5-5-1919 And Is Buried In Collums Cemetery In Calhoun County, Ms. He Has A
Inscription On
His Marker Stating This Information As A Civil War Soldier. He Drew Pension
Off His Enlistment. He was married To the Former Margurette Rebecca (Becky)
Bland.

My husbands Great Grandfather
Young, S. W.
Born 1830 Lawrence County Al. He Served In Company D Under General West G.W.
Parrish In The 4th Ms Infantry As Pvt./Sgt. He Enlisted 8-24-1861 In Grenada
Ms. He Was Wounded Ft. Henry. KY And Vicksburg Ms, (I Have Hand Written
Letters From Him To His Cousin And His Wife During His Enlistment) Paroled
1-2-1864 Vicksburg, Ms And Was Sent To Miller Springhill Hospital (Do Not
Know And Cannot Find Record Of This Hospital). He Would Have Died After the
Year Of 1872. He Was Married To Mary Katherine Walls (B.12-25-1838, D.
3-29-1915 in Kerr County TX) in Itawamba County, MS 12-22-1858.
