I believe that if you look at this 1863 map
http://www.cviog.uga.edu/Projects/gainfo/histcountymaps/forsyth1863map.htm
The road from Hog Mountain to Hartford was probably Winns Ferry.
The road from Hartford to Crossville was probably Old Shallowford.
They are going the right way and the time period is right.
