Hi, all. I'm new here and am eager to find out how active this list is
and how many people are taking part. My gg-grandfather Henry M. MORRIS
(1823/1824-1890) and his wife Emily CANTWELL or CANTRELL (1823/1824-1914)
lived in Forsyth County in the 1840s, along with Emily's parents and
some brothers and sister. Henry and Emily were married there
on June 9, 1844. I'd like to find out whether either family
left any records behind - gravestones, wills, court records, anything.
When they first moved to the county ca. 1840, it appears that the families
joined the Bethel Baptist Church, but they moved to Salem Baptist soon
after
it was founded in 1843. They seem to have stirred things up there. Emily's
brother John married Elmira or Elmina HUTCHINS, who may have been the
preacher's daughter. Emily's sister Elizabeth Jane, on the other hand,
was thrown out of the church in 1846 for fornication.
I'm interested in these colorful characters and would like to find out
anything I can agbout them. Please respond if you know of any information,
can recommend sources or leads, or are willing to do lookups, etc.
Thanks,
