Subject: [GAFORSYT-L] TIDWELLs

This is my first time to post and I have been reading the list archives and
have discovered quite a bit of information on the TIDWELL line.
My problem is that I am not sure what county my TIDWELLs are from.
I have a Nelson M TIDWELL, b abt 1808 and 2 census records indicate he was
born in GA. He was married to a Nancy UNKNOWN b abt 1811 in VA.
Thus far, I've only found this family in 2 census years:
1860 & 1880 McNairy Co, TN census
The census records show 3 children: John F b abt 1839, TN, Robt N b abt
1844, TN, and Francis "Fanny" b abt Sept 1853, TN.
With the children spaced so far apart, it appears there are probably more
children and/or another wife.
There are other TIDWELLs in the west TN area where mine are from, but they
all seem to be from AL.
I've read with interest the messages about the Indian TIDWELLs. It has
always been said that my grandma had "Indian blood", but I have not been
able to find it yet. Since her mother was a TIDWELL, maybe this could be
where it came from.
This question may sound dumb...but I'm asking anyway.
In those days, when a mixed marriage occurred...did an Indian man usually
marry a white woman or did an Indian woman usually marry a white man?
Would love to hear from any TIDWELL researchers about any possible
connections, or perhaps clues on what other GA counties I could search.
Thanks for your help!
