Karon's Horse Tales
Diary of a Wannabe Cowgirl
02-18-2006 Yipee Ki Yi Yippie Yea! They just brought in
10 horses, most of them are pretty young, with maybe 3 older ones. One is a mule. One is a stud. One is a Red Roan, and Rich was trying to tell me a Strawberry Road, and all he could think of was Red. I said "Strawberry?" He grinned "Yah!" His girl friend said "Karon had to tell you."
I have been told The Strawberry Roan was one of my Grandpa's favorite songs. I didn't know him, he died when I was a baby, but I like that song and feel like I connect with Grandpa on that point.
They unloaded the horses, fed them, watered them and took off for another load. It is a long way to go, and I guess they got in to Rich's place about 3 a.m. this morning. I believe he said there are at least another 10 horses that have been rounded up, and still 16 or more out on the range.
Rich said they have a long way to go. I know it is, I have been in that area some. He said he is excited. I have an idea where they are going and it is a long way, they have to cross the Blue Mountain Range in Oregon to get there.
Well, I am excited too. I took the camera out and had Rich take some pictures. Ron said about Tuesday he thinks they will get started cleaning them up; they will take before and after pictures then. The ones they just brought in were
certainly camera shy. He has taken half the roll.
Rich said some of the ones he plans to bring back now are mamas to some of the young ones out here.
Maybe I gave the impression they are all mustangs. They aren't. Some of them are wild because they have just run the range with no work being done with them, and then there are real wild horses, the mustangs. There are three mustangs here now, that I know are mustangs. Two young ones that Ron is supposed to work with until the lady who owns them can handle them. Then there is the one they brought in the other night, the biggest one I have ever seen. Now I am no expert on mustangs, I haven't seen a lot of them but this one is big. I don't know if he has been adopted in one of the save the mustang programs, but I suppose when they get to working with him, I will find out.
One of my readers, Asa, sent me the web site for a very interesting Mustang site. Thank you Asa, I will share it too.

I was telling Rich and his girl friend about it, and Ron said that is a true story, they made a movie out of it. He has seen the movie
We have not had this many young ones on the place since I have had this place. I think it is going to be some fun, watching them work with these young ones.
