That was one of the main ways my kids learned to count. The older ones would run to the window and count, and so of course the younger ones would run to the window and count, and they learned how from the older ones. Also at rail road crossings they usually counted the cars. Those trains would be much longer than the ones that went by out house.

For old times sake, remember . . .

look out for the cars
can you spell that
without any "r's"?

Did anyone used to (or still do) count the freight cars on a train? I
always used to do that. My friends live close to a railroad track that they
can see from their living room window. When a freight train goes by, they
always count the number of cars on the train.
