Perhaps a writing campaign is the answer; but rather than one with the
purpose of taking this information off the internet, it would be better to
campaign for a change by the financial institutions for a change in the
security information they collect. Why can't we just select our own
security word to use. Why does it have to be our mother's maiden name?

Questions for the person who posted the unsigned message touting
the merits of the CA and TX databases for "cleaning up lines":
(1) Have you ever been asked your Mother's Maiden Name as ID for
an account of any type, e.g. by your bank, stock broker, ISP,
utilities provider, etc. etc. etc.???
(2)Is the "cleaning up of your lines" worth the cose of revealing
the single most widely used ID used in this country, i.e. Mother's
Maiden Name when you could have acquired the same information
from the repsective states without it being made available to
the World at the cost of a few mouse clicks???
