I have become quite alarmed recently about the increasing frequency of
messages appearing on rootsweb (in particular) mail lists requesting
information about specific living persons. These are not genealogical
inquiries.

While appearing benign to the casual reader, the true motivation of the
poster is unknown. A well-meaning recipient may unknowingly open a can
of worms and unleash a dangerous chain of events.

Not everyone who has been separated from family members wants to be
found by family members for a variety of reasons.

There are databases and registries available where persons can register
and those who are seeking contact can then come together through a
mutual desire for contact.

What do the rest of you think about this?
