Many thanks to Fred Feather, ace Chairman of ESFH, for the fascinating
information he has provided about the Zeppelins and Zeppelina Clark - is
there nothing Fred doesn't know? Many thanks too to Martyn Lockwood,
Richard Goring and all of the other knowledgeable listers who have been kind
enough to provide further information. Fred, has rightly pointed out that
there are some inaccuracies in my account, as have Martyn & Richard, who are
kindly sending me details regarding this. I was certainly wrong about Trim,
he was chief sergeant of Special Constables at Mersea, not chief constable
as I stated, I got the number of the crew wrong too.

The more I learn about that eventful night in 1916, the more fascinating it
becomes, not least because of the conflicting details in contemporary
accounts. One account states, for example, that the German crew were
considerate of local people, knocking on their doors and warning them to
beware because the Zeppelin might explode, another account states that the
crew wandered about shooting pistols. I suppose both could be true - ie
perhaps the crew were helpful to local farm workers but began shooting when
the police arrived?
