Dear List,
I too have had a similar problem to Avril. My lot came from Willingham,
Cambridgeshire, my pop was Ernest Ronald SMITH and nicknamed Un at least I
thought it was a nickname but it was just the pronunciation and also the
spelling. My nanna was Hilda WAITES Now for the life of me I haven't been
able to find hardly any of them. I received the marriage certificate for her
grandfather and he had signed his name as John WHITES yet the minister still
wrote WAITES/WAITS. I have also seen it written as WEIGHTS. Who do you
believe, a man who signs his own name or a minister who perhaps is from a
different area.
Very interesting all the same.
