Eleen,
The dictionary definition of DOWER is:
a jointure, that part of the husband's property which his widow enjoys
during her life: sometimes used for dowry: gifts of nature.
Further definitions give DOWER-HOUSE which is:
the house set apart for the widow.
The definition of JOINTURE is:
property settled on a woman at marriage to be enjoyed after her husband's
death.
Hope that helps,
Regards,
Martin Edwards
