Re: The Chapman tribe of Diddington Parish, Hunts -

Two of researching the family have never been comfortable with
the connection or able to link the following two Thomas Chapmans's.

Does anyone have info or thoughts -

Thomas Chapman - Yoeman

Born c1712 (place unknown) - Died 21 March, 1768
Buried - St. Lawrence Church yard, Diddington, Grave 147
Have copy of his Will, proved 21 April, 1768 and gravestone
inscription.
Wife - Mary ?, Born c1722, place unknown - died 12 April 1770
also buried at Diddington.
Children - Thomas - b c1750, William - b c1752, Martha - b
c1754, Henry - b c1755, Robert - b c1757, Sarah - b c1759,
Samuel - b c1760, John - b c1762 and James - b c1768.

We know the following is a member of our clan -

Thomas Chapman - Farmer

Born - date and place unkown, died prior to 16 Dec., 1797
place of burial is unknown but I think Diddington.
Have copy of his Will, proved that date.
Married Elizabeth Coe at Buckdem in 1776. Her birth and death
dates are unknown, it is unknown if they had children.
Records show he was a widower when he married Mary Lyon.
Her birth date and place are unknown. She died prior to Thomas.
Children - as listed in the Will - Sarah or Sarah Mary - b & d ?,
Mary Sarah or Mary - b & d ?, Elizabeth - Bapt. 1 Jan., 1792 and
Thomas Joseph - Bapt. 9 Oct., 1794, d 27 Feb., 1880. (He lived in
St. Neots, Hunts, was a Brewer, Maltser, hotel and pub owner.-
owned The Chequers Inn.

I have just received microfiches of Hunts marriages 1600 to 1750 -
nothing fits.

The children of Thomas Joseph C., as mentioned in his Will, this is
what I have -

His son Charles Chapman, my Grt. Grt. Grandfather, I have well
documented.

The eldest son, Thomas, b 1827, d ?, at the time of his fathers death
was listed as Thomas Chapman of Biggleswade, Bedford corn dealer.
Thomas inherited "my dwellinghouse with the malting and premises
ajoining in Cambridge Street St. Neots. This Thomas had a son
Arthur.

A daughter is mentioned - Mary wife of Joseph Gear. Somewhere I have
a note that she may have lived in Cambridge.

A son George was, I found, listed as living a 8 Highbury terrace in
Bath. He supposedly a carriage maker.

For Those down under -

The Will also mentions another daughter - "my daughter Emma Garrrell
formerly the wife of Herbert Heath and now residing at No. 24
Loiwdale Road, East Melbourne in the colony of Austalia-".

Any information will be most appreciated.
