One thing to consider is the civil Registration Boundaries. Tydd St Giles
comes under the present day Fenland Registration District of Cambridgeshire.
See
http://www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/community/bmd/offices/fenland/FenlandDistri
ctPlaces.htm
Tydd St Mary came under the Holbeach sub district of Lincolnshire.
Cambridgeshire County Council maintain an online database of their locally
maintained indexes, enabling you to search and order online. This is at
http://www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/community/bmd/Camdex/ Note that the
reference numbers do not match with those used nationally, as they are
separate indexes.
Lincolnshire County Council do not offer a similar service as the cost of
transcribing the original handwritten indexes held by the Registration
Districts were too costly. A search of the Cambridgeshire indexes for any
Greenwood baptism in any Registration District between 1837 and 1845 yields
only two results. None of them boys. Whilst a transcription error can occur,
it is unlikely that it will have occurred three times for the same family.
Therefore it would seem a good bet that the births were registered in
Lincolnshire. Of course this does not mean they were living in Lincolnshire,
it just means that they probably looked at Tydd St Mary as their home
Parish.
Obviously in this case, as the details cannot be located on the Cambridge
Index, you will need to use the National indexes which can be located on
various commercial sites if you want to look at the indexes online or via
the larger Public Libraries. You will need to ask other Australian
researchers where these can be consulted on your home soil.
As always, verify your source from original records where possible.

The confusion may be because Tydd St Giles is in Cambridgeshire but Tydd St
Mary is in Lincolnshire and these are directly opposite each other on the
border. I would suggest that you ignore the previous researchers advice and
obtain the birth certificate for Joseph, that will show definitely where he
was born. Only rely on somebody's information as notation always finalise
yourself.
Kind regards,
