Could SKS help me with a CARTER family enquiry? My first on this group.

My grandfather on my mother's side was Sidney (Sid) Carter born 8 February
1883 in Wisbech. He rarely spoke of his parents or of Wisbech so I would
like to learn any basic details about his parents, any immediate family, and
where in Wisbech the family lived. The only other pieces of information to
hand is that Sidney married Eliza Jane Hanslip GOODGE of Littleport at
Terrington St John, Norfolk (date not known) and their first child Dorothy
CARTER (my Aunt Dorothy) was born at Terrington on 6 May 1909. By 1916 the
family were living in London.

I'm sure that any self-respecting genealogist could polish off several
CARTER generations before elevenses but I'm not a genealogist and I'm just
beginning to feel my way in unfamiliar territory. My Mother is the only
surviving child of Sid and Eliza. She is in her eighties and I think she is
having a little late life curiosity. This enquiry is really for her.

I have no information about my great-grandparents or their siblings (this is
part of the mystery). My mother remembers that remarkably little was said
about her Father's family other than he had came to London with Eliza
against his/her (?) family's wishes (some time after 1909) and that some
kind of family rift (may have) ensued.

I do have over 50 pages of a huge family tree on the Littleport GOODGE's
courtesy of Richard Creak (me and the kids are on it down near the bottom),
so Eliza is not the problem. It's the elusive Sidney and his parents we
would like to find.

I would appreciate any information.
