Subject: help on The Drayhorses at Tilney
Date: Mon, 02 May 2005 13:29:36 -0400
Hello List.
Following on from my query on the possible location and use ie pub? stable etc of "The Drayhorses, Tilney St Lawrence" which had two of my NEVE family mentioned there in the 1851 census but doors apart, I had a great reply from David off this list which explained a lot but unfortunately we still couldn't come up with an answer.
Can anyone help? Was there a pub The Drayhorses in 1851 later renamed? Or was there a stable for drayhorses perhaps with accomodation for grooms etc? It just seems strange that two if not three families lived there according to the census.
I have: 1851 Census - Jeremiah and Elizabeth NEVE at "The Drayhorses" TSL, and two mentions down on the census list are Samuel and Mary NEVE plus children Samuel,George, Mary and Eizabeth.
I'm just curious to what "The Drayhorses" was - surely not a road, it certainly doesn't sound like it. Any suggestions welcome. It might give me a clue to their occupations.
Regards Cheryl (nee NEVE and tracing MELTON, MORTON, BARBER, DIDWELL around the Walpole St Andrew/Peter and Sutton Bridge areas, plus COY in Downham and MERRIMAN ??? a preacher around this area in early 1900's who may have married my gt gt grandmother Maria MELTON of Walpole St Peter.)
