Dear Listers
I have an old map of Wisbech and have found reference to
Trafalgar Row. It was a row of cottages that ran along the route of the old canal
which is now called Churchhill Rd.
To position its location on a new map find Churchill Rd., then find a street
called St. Augustines Rd.that runs parallel to Churchill Rd. on the bend
towards the river. Trafalgar Row consisted of about thirty cottages that were
along the same side of the canal as St. Augustines Rd and ran along the side of
the canal facing the water. The length of Trafalgar Row was approx. the same
length as St. Augustines Rd. Just to complicate matters St. Augustines Rd. was
previously called Monica Rd and Agenoria Str. I lived in Agenoria Str. for the
first six years of my life. I have been into Wisbech today and checked all
these facts with the locals. I had lunch in the New Blackfriars Pub which is now
where Trafalgar Row was Knocked down. The canal and the cottages were still
there in the 1950's. I believe the transformation of this area took place in the
early 1960's. Hope this helps .
